We are seeking a Cards and Payments Engineer to drive the design, build, and delivery of scalable and resilient payments systems. Alongside projects and change initiatives, you’ll support BAU activities — Request, Incident, and Change Management. In this role you will collaborate with product, digital, and vendor teams to deliver secure, compliant, and future-ready solutions. With strong technical and problem-solving skills, you’ll play a key role in ensuring successful delivery of change while helping to shape the future of our payments platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to project delivery and change initiatives, including new payment features, platform upgrades, and integrations.
- Design and implement solutions that ensure resilience, scalability, and security of cards and payments platforms.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, and vendors to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions aligned to business needs.
- Provide technical input into design decisions for payments systems, APIs, and integrations.
- Identify opportunities to modernize and automate platforms using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in project planning, estimating, and technical scoping for change initiatives.
- Contribute to design documentation, technical standards, and best practices.
- Ensure that all change activity aligns with regulatory and compliance requirements (PCI-DSS, ISO standards).
- Contribute to and maintain design and operational support documentation & resources, including clear support procedures, standards & best practices guides.
- Provide expert hands-on engineering technical support and guidance. This includes participating in a 24 x 7 on-call roster as required.
Tech Stack
- Payments & Cards: Payment gateways, card management systems, ISO 8583/ISO 20022 protocols, tokenization services, fraud monitoring.
- Databases: MariaDB, MySQL.
- DevOps & Cloud: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD (GitLab CI), Terraform, Ansible, Azure / AWS.
- Monitoring & Logging: Splunk.
- Collaboration Tools: Git, Jira, Confluence, Postman, Figma.
- OS & Infra: Linux, Windows Server, VMware.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3+ years experience as a Software/Platform/Payments Engineer working on project delivery.
- Strong understanding of payments and cards platforms (e.g., gateways, acquiring/issuing systems, ISO 8583).
- Experience in designing, building, and integrating complex systems in financial services.
- Proficiency with API development and integration.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Bicep).
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional project teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with real-time payments systems and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of PCI-DSS and financial compliance standards.
- Experience working with vendors and third-party partners on solution delivery.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum project environments.
