Location can be either New Plymouth, Auckland or Wellington

Fixed term, full-time for 12 months

To drive impactful change and support us in achieving our vision to be the easiest bank to deal with.

About the Role

You’ll be joining a motivated team of QA Engineers who play a big part in shaping our digital platforms. This role is hands-on and influential — you’ll help design solutions, lift quality standards, and ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and customer‑ready. You’ll work closely with Technology Services and delivery teams, using modern agile practices and your strong technical experience to guide testing strategies and mentor others.

This role provides rostered 24x7 on-call support for systems related issues within the team’s responsibilities.

Who are you?

You're an experienced tester with a strong background in data-focused testing and quality assurance. You enjoy getting into the detail, understanding how data flows through systems, and making sure it's accurate, reliable and fit for purpose. You're comfortable working across technical and business teams, asking the right questions, and using your analytical skills to identify issues and drive quality outcomes.

In this role, you can expect to be:

  • Validating data transformations, reconciliations, and mappings across data platforms.
  • Performing testing and quality assurance activities for data warehouses, data lakes, and modern data platforms.
  • Writing and executing complex SQL queries to validate, analyse, and troubleshoot data issues.
  • Supporting ETL/ELT testing and ensuring data quality throughout the pipeline lifecycle.
  • Developing and maintaining test automation and data validation scripts using Python where appropriate.
  • Working with data engineers, analysts, developers, product owners, and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions meet quality expectations.
  • Using Azure DevOps to manage testing activities, track work items, and contribute to delivery pipelines.
  • Testing and validating data from relational database sources and reporting platforms.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of testing practices, data quality controls, and governance standards.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • 3+ years' experience in Quality Assurance, Test Analysis, or Test Automation roles.
  • Strong experience in data testing, or data warehouse/data platform testing.
  • Hands-on ETL/ELT testing experience, including validation of data transformations, reconciliations, and source-to-target mappings.
  • Strong SQL skills, with the ability to write complex queries for validation, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Microsoft Azure data services.
  • Experience working with Azure Data Lake and Microsoft Azure Storage Explorer.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data testing, automation, or scripting.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, including test management, pipelines, repositories, and work item tracking.
  • Experience testing data from relational databases, including MySQL.
  • Exposure to data visualisation and reporting tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • A strong understanding of data quality, data integrity, reconciliation, privacy, and security considerations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with data engineers, analysts, product owners, developers, and business stakeholders.

Why join us?

  • A chance to lead and influence quality across key platforms
  • Work with modern tools and automation practices
  • A supportive, collaborative team that values continuous improvement
  • A meaningful fixed‑term role with real impact
