About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join the team here at TSB and help us design and deliver secure, scalable technology that supports how our people and customers bank with us.
This is a senior technical role with a strong focus on backend engineering, APIs and system integration. You’ll work across our applications, platforms and services, solving complex technical challenges and building reliable, high-performing solutions that connect our technology ecosystem.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll:
- Design, develop and support secure, scalable backend services, APIs and integration solutions.
- Lead the delivery of high-quality software solutions from design through to implementation and ongoing support.
- Contribute to technical architecture, engineering standards and design decisions.
- Help shape and champion API, integration and modern engineering best practices.
- Work collaboratively with product, platform, security and delivery teams to solve complex technical problems.
- Build solutions with performance, reliability, security and maintainability front of mind.
- Support modern DevOps practices, including continuous integration and delivery, automated testing and Infrastructure as Code.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring, sharing your knowledge and helping other engineers grow.
- Continuously look for opportunities to simplify, improve and strengthen the way we build and deliver technology.
What you’ll bring:
- Strong backend development experience, particularly with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing and delivering REST APIs, microservices and system integrations.
- Good understanding of API management, authentication and security approaches such as OAuth2 and JWT.
- Experience with cloud-native technologies and containerised environments.
- Knowledge of modern DevOps, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), and automated testing practices.
- Experience working with databases and modern integration patterns.
- Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to navigate complex technical environments.
- The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- A collaborative approach to mentoring and supporting other engineers.
- A mindset focused on quality, continuous improvement and delivering great outcomes.
Experience across some of these technologies would set you up well:
- Backend: Java, Spring Boot, Spring Integration, REST APIs, Microservices.
- API & Integration: API Management, OpenAPI/Swagger, OAuth2, JWT, Event-Driven Architecture, Messaging.
- Databases: MariaDB, MySQL, Redis and MongoDB.
- Cloud & Platforms: Azure, OpenShift, Rancher, Kubernetes and Docker.
- DevOps: GitLab CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and Automated Testing.
- Monitoring & Observability: Splunk, Logging and Performance Monitoring.
- Tools: IntelliJ, Git, Jira and Postman.
